What is composite veneer?

first You need to know about the veneers and then the composite.

First, veneers are tooth-color thin layers designed to improve the structure of teeth. Veneers are available and fabricated from different materials. Laminate veneers (you might have heard the name) and composite veneers are these two familiar types of veneers.

Some of the veneers are directly placed on the teeth and the others are placed indirectly. Don’t bother about the names. These direct and indirect ways are used because of the way these veneers are prepared and placed on the teeth.

As an example, dental laminates that are made in the laboratory are indirect veneers and the composite ones are those that are directly applied to structure the teeth within the appointments with the dentist.

Advantages of composite veneers

These veneers have a lot of benefits. A few comparisons with dental laminates may clear the points if you have a feeling of uncertainty on which one to choose.

  • It is done in a single appointment (unlike laminate which takes 2 sessions)
  • It is a great choice for younger people as composite veneers are reversible
  • Compared with laminate, composite veneers are cheaper
  • It needs a little preparation work and the harm to teeth is to its lowest
  • Most importantly, there is no need for any desensitizing agents

Disadvantages of composite veneers

Although there are some advantages, you may face with the side effects of composite veneers:

  • Unlike dental laminate, it requires clinical work and careful placement techniques
  • It may chip if you chew on hard thing (which is true of all veneers)
  • Unfortunately, unlike ceramic laminates, color changes is possible
  • How should we take care of composite veneers?
  • After the restorative and esthetic operations on the teeth, the maintenance care of it should be part of your daily life.

To take care of composite veneers, you need to follow these tips:

  • Avoid eating excessively on foods or fruits that contain high level of pigmentation since these veneers change its enamel-like color if the real color of teeth is at risk of color change
  • As an extra tip following what we said above, do not eat those fruits and foods that cause color changes in the tooth pigmentation for 48 hours from composite veneer placement.
  • Smoking should be avoided during this time
  • Do not chew on hard things
  • Placing mouth guard is a must if you have a habit of grinding your teeth at night
  • You need regular visits to the dentist and good dental hygiene is necessary
